Daily Journal Continued February 7, 1998, William Thomas Thompson. Everyday brings new blessings and new opportunities to tell the story of Jesus and his love, to illustrate how we should live and serve with joy and victory the Lord God Almighty in Heaven. God is everywhere and is with each of us. May we seek His face? Dear Lord. I thank you that you are ever with us. I am in Daytona Beach Florida where the 500 auto race is about to happen. The news paper has major headlines talking about the speed of light. People are falling over each other, running over each to get here and running into each other to get a hotel room. The greed of hotel/motel owners raising their rates for the event to hook the crazy race fans. The hero drivers are pictured with their wives and children just before they go out there and kill themselves. Man likes blood. The world is a bloody place and will see much more during the end with the great battle of Lord God Almighty to clear the earth of all evil. The world is ready. White grapefruit is my food of the day, one of many. Last night I drove down here to buy paint at the Home Depot and to stay on the beach. It began to rain hard all the 50 miles. I found Home Depot out beside the race track on highway 92 near I-95. Before leaving I purchased a Claxton fruit cake and a pint of milk complete with ice in a paper cup. I wanted fruitcake all during Christmas and had very little. I felt a need somehow for it this hour even though it is not on my list of good foods I wish to eat. I pulled into a lighted area and ate this for dinner and it was all I needed, half the 16oz. cake and the pint of milk. Hitting the beach late and wet full of wild racing fans, I hunted a motel where I could park and unload my luggage and my canon daily record star writer to do my journal. I soon found the Lido Beach Motel at 1217 S. Atlantic Avenue with a posted rate of $20. I ask to see the room and it was agreeable with the clerk. A very helpful person was there offering to help me take my luggage up 2 steps and everything looked fine until I tried to call home. They charged me $1.00 per call to call out of the room. If they can’t get it for the room, they do for the phone. The person helping me locked my door before closing it; it was the old turn type door lock. When I tried to open that door this morning I could not. I called the desk but no answer. I used my small handy pliers to turn the lock in both directions without success. I was trapped inside the room. I checked all 3 windows and the 3rd one I could open, so I crawled outside. When I went later to the desk, the foreign speaking European could not find me on the list. I leave you there. I fear for others that may get trapped in this room. Cor-I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I drove to meet Buck back at the fort and was late for breakfast. Buck had to leave early and I slipped on my paint clothes over my regular clothes and begin to paint on the back side of the sign that partly faced the highway. As I painted the background I felt like I should paint 3 crosses because there were 3 steel posts to hold the billboard sign up. When I started to leave for a late lunch my car would not start. I walked down to my neighbors store and not one person would help me other than say, you can use our phone. I walked back and the car started up then. I went out to the beach and saw the high waves. I painted by headlights late.
